The School of Marxism was established in November 2009 on the basis of the political discipline committee established in 1953, after going through important stages such as the Marxist-Leninist Teaching and Research Department, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and was officially operated independently in May 2018, and was approved as a key Marxist college in Shaanxi Province in June 2018. 

The college began to enroll in the undergraduate major of "ideological and political education" in 1988, and at present, this major is a "first-class major" in Shaanxi Province. At the same time, it has a doctoral degree authorization point in the second-level discipline of "Environment and Social Development", a master's degree authorization point in the first-level discipline of "Marxist Theory" (including four second-level disciplines of basic principles of Marxism, the study of the sinification of Marxism, ideological and political education, and the study of basic issues in modern and contemporary Chinese history), a master's degree authorization point of the first-level discipline of philosophy (under which there are three second-level disciplines of Marxist philosophy, Chinese philosophy, and philosophy of science and technology), and a master's degree training qualification for ideological and political education for teachers in colleges and universities.
